Frequently Asked
Questions
Do porcelain tiles need sealing?
Most porcelain tiles do not need sealing, because the dense, vitrified body is naturally non-porous a key advantage over natural stone, which usually requires sealing and periodic resealing. The exception is the grout between tiles, which can be sealed for extra stain protection. Always check the manufacturer's guidance for the specific tile.
Can porcelain tiles be used outdoors in Australia?
Yes. Porcelain's resistance to water, frost, fading and temperature extremes makes it ideal for Australian outdoor use alfresco areas, patios, paths and pool surrounds. Structural 20mm porcelain pavers are made specifically for outdoor and pool applications, and can be matched to a 10mm indoor tile for a seamless indoor-outdoor look.
What is the difference between glazed and full-body porcelain?
Glazed porcelain carries its colour and design on a surface glaze layer, offering the widest range of looks. Full-body (through-body) porcelain runs the colour and pattern through the entire thickness of the tile, so any chips or wear are far less visible. Full-body porcelain is the premium choice for the highest-traffic and commercial areas, while glazed porcelain suits the majority of residential applications beautifully. see our porcelain vs ceramic tiles guide.
